Calle 13
The recording moniker employed by stepbrothers El Residente (b. Ren Perez, 23 February 1978, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico) and Visitante (b. Eduardo Cabra, 10 September 1978, Santurce, Puerto Rico). Visitante, whose father is Residente's stepfather, was a regular visitor to his stepfamily's home in the suburbs of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. The brothers first began making music together in the late 90s while completing arts degrees. Adopting their new monikers, the duo began writing and recording tracks heavily influenced by the reggaeton artists dominating the Puerto Rican charts at the start of the new millennium. Gradually though, they began to lean ever more heavily on hip-hop and Latin pop to create a more eclectic style. Released in 2005, their self-titled debut album certainly stood out from the glut of reggaeton releases clogging up the Latin charts. The album spawned the major hits "Se Vale T¢-T¢", "Atrevete-Te-Te!" and "Suave".
