Cab
Formed by the virtuoso instrumentalists Tony MacAlpine (b. 29 August 1960, Springfield, Massachusetts, USA; guitar/keyboards), Bunny Brunel (b. Bernard Brunel, March 1950, Nice, France; bass), and Dennis Chambers (b. 9 May 1959, Baltimore, Maryland, USA; drums) at the end of the 90s, CAB recreate the glory days of 70s jazz rock fusion. The trio's 2000 debut showcased the protagonists' improvisational capabilities, with the guitar work of MacAlpine indicating a previously untapped capacity for jazz playing (his previous forays had been in the hard rock genre). MacAlpine also contributed keyboards to the trio's debut, but by the time of the 2001 follow-up they had added veteran UK player Brian Auger (b. 18 July 1939, Bihar, India) to the line-up. CAB 2 (2001) reprised the groove-based tone of its predecessor, with Auger's keyboard work adding a new depth to proceedings. Second keyboardist Patrice Rushen (b. 30 September 1954, Los Angeles, California, USA) added a new layer of complex harmonic sound to the mix on the group?s third outing in 2003. The group has also released several DVDs documenting their breathtaking live sound, with Virgil Donati (b. Australia; drums) and David Hirschfelder (keyboards) frequently depping for Auger, Chambers and Rushen.
