Seu Jorge
Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and actor Seu Jorge was raised in the slums of Rio, where he learned to play guitar and write songs. His break came in 1998 when he wrote and performed on MORO NO BRASIL, the debut album by samba fusuon band Farofa Carioca. This led to a solo recording contract and the excellent debut SAMBA ESPORTE FINO (1999), which was recorded with noted hip-hop producer Mario Caldato. In 2002, Jorge launched his acting career in the brilliant Brazilian film CITY OF GOD, and two years later he appeared in Wes Anderson's quirky THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU. He bittersweet acoustic interpretations of various David Bowie songs in that film brought him his largest audience yet, and launched his career on an international level.
