Nailbomb
A side-project for Sepultura vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera (b. Belo Horizonte, 4 August 1969) and Fudge Tunnel singer/guitarist Alex Newport, both residents of Phoenix, Arizona. Nailbomb arrived with the public thus: "It was right after the last show on the Ministry tour. It was in San Diego and we were having a party. Me and Alex were talking 'cause the tour was over, the rest of the guys in Sepultura were going to Brazil, and I wasn't going because it was close to the time my son (Zyon) would be born. But I didn't want to stay and just do nothing in Phoenix . . . So I told Alex, "why don't we get together and do some songs, just for the hell of it'. We didn't even think of recording anything". Originally titled Hate Project, then Sickman, they eventually settled on Nailbomb because both partners wanted something "real shocking". A tape of the duo's demos reached Monte Conner at Roadrunner. He secured a larger budget, and the result was Point Blank, which improved on the quality of the original demos but maintained the punk sound (a cross between Big Black and Discharge) that they had developed together. Contributions came from Sepultura's lead guitarist Andreas Kisser and drummer Igor Cavalera, together with an appearance by Fear Factory's Dino Cazares on "24 Hour Bullshit". A second album was essentially a live recording, although Cavalera's vocals begin to grate painfully by the end of the set.
