John Williamson
b. 1 November 1945, Quambatook, Victoria, Australia. Williamson's musically inclined parents sang in amateur operatic productions. At the end of his teens, the family relocated to Croppa Creek, near Moree, New South Wales. Singing at a local restaurant he introduced his first composition, "Old Man Emu", which was a great success. He sang it on television's New Faces, winning first place, part of the prize being a recording contract. Williamson recorded the song for Fable Records and saw it rise swiftly to number 1 in the Australian pop charts.
