Based in Chicago, Illinois, this US indie rock quartet was formed in 2004 by Bob Morris (b. Robert Samuel Morris, 8 February 1985, USA; guitar/vocals), Greta Salpeter (vocals/piano), Darren Wilson (drums), and Chris Faller (bass). Morris and the classically trained Salpeter had met at school, while Wilson and Faller were recruited from local band Until Sundown. The quartet's independently released debut So Sudden. was a refreshing mixture of indie pop and folk, with the prominent use of the piano and the shared male/female vocals of Morris and Salpeter offering a welcome antidote to the usual guitar rock fare of their contemporaries. The album was re-released later in the year by the Fueled By Ramen subsidiary Decaydance, a label more commonly associated with the punk pop guitar bands favoured by its founder Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. Wentz's colleague Patrick Stump joined Sean O'Keefe in the studio to help produce the Hush Sound's second album. The improved production values helped the songs on Like Vines (2006) really soar, and the album proved to be one of the year's sleeper hits.

  The Hush Sound is an eclectic and amusing band with powerful vocals, entrancing instrumentals, and (in general) a great sound! Definitely one of the greatest bands I've ever stumbled across.
