Nightmare Of You
US indie rock band formed by Brandon Reilly (b. 18 May 1981, USA; vocals/guitar), Joseph McCaffrey (guitar), Sam Siegler (drums, ex-Glassjaw) and Ryan Heil (bass). The Long Island-based quartet was an unexpected detour from lead singer Reilly's hardcore roots. After playing lead guitar in the Rookie Lot and pop punk group Movielife, Reilly formed Nightmare Of You with high school friend McCaffrey in 2003 in his first lead vocal role. Heil and Siegler were quickly drafted in to complete the line-up. Taking their name from a reference in the Cure song "Kyoto", the band released their self-titled debut album on their own imprint, The Bevonshire Label. Produced by Jason Lader, esteemed producer Rick Rubin's protg, the album was critically acclaimed and led to US and UK tours in support of bands such as AFI and My Chemical Romance, as well as a recording contract with Sire Records. The quartet's sound makes clear reference to the Manchester, England-based music scene of the 80s, with the Smiths providing a clear undertone to their music. The sharp musical progression from hardcore to Britpop was backed by purportedly autobiographical lyrics, which addressed a wide variety of subjects with often sexually ambiguous, violent or romantic themes.
