Richard Hawley
Sheffield, England, singer-songwriter Richard Hawley had his first brush with fame as a member of Britpop also-rans the Longpigs, though he went on to join the final line-up of Pulp. When Pulp split, Hawley retreated to his native Yorkshire and set about recording his debut solo album, LATE NIGHT FINAL. A melancholy, wee-small-hours mixture of Scott Walker, Roy Orbison, and Morrissey, the album established the template for the 2002 follow-up, LOWEDGES, and his commercial breakthrough, COLES CORNER. The latter album was nominated for the 2006 Mercury Music Prize, losing narrowly to fellow Sheffield artists the Arctic Monkeys.
