Horrorpops
b. Joseph J. Puma, 13 August 1927, New York City, New York, USA, d. 31 May 2000, New York City, New York, USA. Puma?s father built guitars; he taught himself to play the instrument, becoming professional in the late 40s after a brief career as an engineer. Through the 50s he worked with many musicians including Louie Bellson, Cy Coleman, Eddie Costa, Les Elgart, Bill Evans, Dick Hyman, Hank Jones, Lee Konitz, Peggy Lee, Herbie Mann, Sam Most, Mat Mathews, Oscar Pettiford and Artie Shaw. In the 60s he was musical director for Morgana King, also working with Gary Burton, Bobby Hackett and Carmen McRae. In later decades he was with artists such as Jim Hall, Helen Merrill, Red Mitchell, Paul Motian, Mark Murphy, Hod O'Brien, Cecil Payne, Carol Sloane and Chuck Wayne.
