BoDeans
From Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA, this roots rock band update a traditional musical framework. Their slightly earnest performances might endear them to critics, but live audiences throughout North America and Europe have warmed to their heartfelt performances. The band's 1986 debut Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams, produced by T-Bone Burnett, saw each member of the band adopt the BoDean surname, though the principal creative axis usually travelled under the names Samuel Llanas (b. 8 February 1961, Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA) and Kurt Neumann (b. 9 October 1961, Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA), who had first met at Waukesha High School back in 1977 and founded BoDeans six years later, with Guy Hoffman (b. 20 May 1954, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; drums) and Bob Griffin (b. 4 December 1959, Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA; bass) completing the line-up. It was Llanas and Neumann's guitar playing and, particularly, singing (weaving, counterpointing harmonies) which gave this early material its edge on singles such as "Angels", "She's A Runaway" and "Fadeaway".
